Check every figure
Confirm each result against the order, the product label and your unit's protocol, and against an independent calculation, before anything is changed at the cot side. Treat a number here as a second opinion, never as the first.
What goes in decides what comes out
Everything is calculated from the weight, concentrations and rates you type in. A mistyped weight or a stale rate produces a confident, wrong answer. Check that the dosing weight is the one your unit is currently using, and that each line matches what is actually running.
Enteral GIR is an estimate
Carbohydrate content varies with fortification, recipe and batch, and what a baby absorbs is not the same as what goes down the tube. The preset percentages are typical values, not product data. GIR conventionally means intravenous glucose, which is why feeds stay out of the total unless you switch them in.
Reference ranges are a guide
The maintenance band of 4–8 mg/kg/min, and the flag at 12.5% dextrose for peripheral access, are common conventions rather than rules. Your unit's protocol and the baby in front of you take precedence over both.
Your data stays in your browser
Weights, fluids and patient records are held in this browser's local storage. They are never sent to the server — the calculator posts nothing, and there is no account, no database and no analytics. The one exception is the contact form, which submits only what you type into it.
That also means there is no backup: clearing site data, or using a different browser or device, starts from nothing. Avoid entering identifiers you would not want left on a shared computer — a cot number or initials is usually enough.
